Eagles Men take to the court for the first time while Hoops and Eagles Juniors start dominating their Leagues

November 7, 2018

Neither Oxford Brookes University teams were in action last week, but looking forward Division One Women, looking for their first win of the season on Sunday vs Southwark Pride, while the men are playing Essex Blades in the next round of the National Shield. No such luck for the Oxford Stealers who were knocked out of the Shield on Saturday by the Birmingham Mets.

In the juniors, while the Eagles U14 National Leaguers had the weekend off, Hoops had a double header. Playing MK Trojans at home on Saturday, they were defeated 60-83 but came bouncing back the next day and were victorious against Northants Thunder in a close game with them winning at home 86-82.  They now sit second in the Midlands West League. Well done! Their U16s suffered another defeat, this time away to West Herts Warriors II, a tough team. Hoops lost 84-59 but according to Coach Franky "are taking large steps forward, every game is better, every game is a little closer. They have some real athletes in the squad that once they click will be a terrific proposition. In the mean time, we will all rally behind them on Saturday when they stand a good chance vs Reading Rockets II"

A win for the Abingdon Eagles' U16s vs Farnborough Phantoms took them to the top of the South I National League. In a great team performance, Coach Steve said " Most pleasing was the all-round team performance and also the Eagles free throw shooting percentage of 70%. Final score Eagles 98 Farnborough 57.

And finally, Abingdon Eagles' men's team took to the court for the first time. In a tough game vs a big, experienced Blazers squad, the team suffered their first defeat going down 71 - 38, but a really good result for an extremely new team with plenty of positives.
